Communities In Schools partners with the Moravian Falls Learning Center to provide homework completion services to students who attend Moravian Falls and reside in the Country Square community. Student volunteers from Central Middle and Wilkes Central High School often come to help the younger students with their homework. Sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 5:00 — and a healthy snack is provided.
DanCIS is an experience unlike any other dance program. Dance wear, shoes, and class instruction are provided for all students free of charge. DanCIS students are exposed to a wide variety of dances, cultures, and opportunities to choreograph and create their own dances. DanCIS gives students a place to grow, have fun and get fit.
Friends of Youth is a one-on-one mentoring program for 4th through 8th graders. Volunteer mentors spend 2-4 hours a week with a child doing normal everyday activities. Monthly activities are also planned for all youth and mentors to enjoy as a group. Activities are always fun and educational, as well as socially and culturally enriched.
Lunch Buddies is a mentoring program which focuses on children in kindergarten through 3rd grades. Volunteers spend one lunch period a week at the school of their choice eating lunch, building a special friendship and encouraging a child. The Lunch Buddy program is offered at various elementary school throughout Wilkes County.
New Century Scholars is a community partnership project in which scholarships to Wilkes Community College are awarded to 6th grade students. Twenty-four students are awarded annually with scholarships and followed through each grade. The program coordinator provides resources, guidance and support throughout their middle and high school years, while also setting up service learning projects for the students to complete in the community. The students receive the scholarship upon graduation. Partners in the efforts are: CIS, Wilkes Community College, Wilkes Chamber of Commerce Education Improvement Committee and local businesses. Businesses, individuals, and church or civic groups sponsor students with a $1,000 tax-deductible contribution.

Qualified students receive free eye exams and eye glasses through a national vision service plan partnership. This program is for students under age 18 without Medicaid or vision insurance. Students may be referred by anyone.
Located at Moravian Falls Elementary, North Wilkesboro Elementary and Central Wilkes Middle School these staff members act as liaisons to bring resources, services, business partners, parents, and volunteers into their schools. This collaboration fosters a proven community effort to help students succeed. In addition, we have a High School Student Support Specialist who serves all Wilkes County high schools, once a week.
